Artemis II and Science Funding

Me on TV

I was interviewed today on the Serbian television channel Blic (Blitz) about Canada’s involvement in the Artemis program.

You can watch my segment here . The rest of the show is in Serbian.

I am grateful for Blic for covering this story, and for my professor suggesting that they interview me. I only had the chance to say one sentence to them, but if I had more time I would have said the following:

It is very exciting to see projects like Artemis and the power they have to inspire millions of people. Artemis is only possible because of years of work by thousands of people and financial support from governments around the world. At the same time, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and many other nations have made drastic cuts to their science budgets. This is very sad to see, as leaders are selling the future for often minuscale savings.

Fundamental physics research has lead to the development of MRIs, ultrasounds, GPS, phone cameras and much more. I hope if we learn anything from Artemis, it is that the public likes and is inspired by science, and that our governments should continue supporting it for years to come.
